Why Do Awareness Through Movement?
Mindfulness: If you want to practice mindfulness but don’t like sitting still to meditate, and yoga just isn’t your thing, then ATM is perfect for you. The lessons consist of gentle movement sequences that increase awareness while enhancing your physical intelligence.
Better Athletic Performance: In order to do any exercise or play any sport, you have to be able to move. If you move better, with less effort, you’ll also perform better. ATM optimizes your movement patterns, so that you become more much efficient. When you begin to use your body the way it was built to work, your physical fitness improves without any additional training!
Pain Relief: Pain is complicated! Many forms of pain require medical attention. But others simply arise from poor self-use (e.g. ITB and carpal tunnel syndromes, osteoarthritis, low back pain). ATM shows you how to use your frame the way it’s built to work. You learn to improve coordination while lowering your musculoskeletal system’s workload. Cramped muscles spontaneously relax, and your over-stressed body parts have a chance to heal and get back to normal.
Easier Deskwork: A lot of people go through their work day with an aching back, tight, painful shoulders, sore neck, clenched jaw, headache, and eye strain. While ergonomic furniture can help, it’s actually easier just to learn how to use your body comfortably with or without external aids. ATM shows you how to sit and function with ease.
Stress Management: ATM is intensely relaxing! You can learn simple moves, that release tension and lower your stress level.
The ATM Experience
ATM lessons consist of verbal instructions that ask you to get into various positions, perform specific movements, and pay attention to different sensations. Generally, lessons start with simple actions, which develop into things you never thought you could do so well (or at all!)
ATM lessons are done on the floor, sitting in chairs, or standing. Each lesson takes about forty-five minutes. However, we strongly recommend that you allot extra time after class to relax and enjoy your new sensations.
Our online classes are special! Most online ATMs are simply recordings that leave you to your own devices. if you don’t understand an instruction, you’re on your own. But we run a real-time classroom with instructor supervision that keeps you on track for success!
